The Australian-based Institute for Economics and Peace has scored Sierra Leone 1.792 in the Global Peace Index, ranking it 47th out of 163 countries worldwide.

The West African country has moved up three places from its 50th position in 2022, with a score of 1.803.

While Sierra Leone improved in the rankings, the report stated that “global peacefulness deteriorated by 0.42 percent.”

According to the Australian institute, this deterioration marks the thirteenth in the past 15 years.

Iceland is ranked as the most peaceful country in the world, a position it has held since 2008.

Other European countries such as Ireland, Denmark, and Austria also rank high in the report.

New Zealand has also achieved a high score in the rankings.

The report states that Afghanistan is the least peaceful country in the world for the eighth consecutive year.

Yemen, along with Syria, South Sudan, and DR Congo, also ranks at the bottom of the report.
