The National Traffic Coordinator, Local Unit Commander of the Harbour Division, and the Operations Team, under the orders of the Regional Commander of Freetown-East, have pledged to launch a Crack down operation against abandoned vehicles on the Bai Bureh Road area to tackle traffic congestion in that part of the country.
In a Press Briefing on Thursday, the 13th July, 2023, the Regional Commander of Freetown-East, ACP Dr. John Martin Senesie, issued a stern warning to owners of cement factories along the Bai Bureh Road, against the abandoned vehicles parked on the roadside near their factories.
Bai Bureh Road is one of the most congested roads in Sierra Leone. It is situated nearby to the suburbs Wellington and Kissy. Several abandoned vehicles are parked on the roadside, which does not only disturb the traffic but causes lots of accidents.
Speaking on the briefing, Senesie expressed concern over the parking of cement vehicles, along their factory routes which he said has caused traffic congestion, posing a hazard to pedestrians. He urged them to maintain easy flow of traffic around their factories.
However, Human Resource officers of cement factories in Bai Bureh road area, have denied having anything to do with such vehicles, stating that most of the vehicles causing congestion were parked by unknown individuals.
Meanwhile, the Regional Commander has ordered the National Traffic Coordinator and the Local Unit Commander of the Harbour Division to deploy traffic personnel to monitor the situation closely and make arrests when necessary along the affected routes.
