The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has announced a major reshuffle of senior officers, including new leadership for the unit combating drug trafficking.
According to a police transfer order dated October 2025 and signed by Director of Human Resource Management Mr. Musa James, the changes are effective immediately.
The most significant moves see the head of the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU), CSP Mohamed K. Allieu, transferred out of his role. TOCU is the primary police unit responsible for investigating drug trafficking and organized crime.
CSP Allieu has been reassigned to lead the Operational Policy and Planning Department (OPPD).
He is replaced by CSP Michael J.K. Laggah, who was previously the Deputy Head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Taking over Laggah’s former post as Deputy Head of CID is ACP Edna Finda Sumana, who moves from her position as head of the OPPD. The appointment makes her one of the most senior women in the police force’s investigative branch.
Additionally, DSP Abass Bangura has been appointed as the new Deputy Head of TOCU. He was previously the Crime Officer at the Lumley Police Division.
The police transfer order did not provide a reason for the sweeping changes, which affect several key departments responsible for criminal investigations and strategic operations. Such reshuffles often signify a strategic shift in an organization’s approach to pressing security challenges.
