The Sierra Leone Police has last week arrested two Sierra Leonean nationals alleged to have smuggling drugs hidden in a black jeep to neighbouring Liberia.
They were arrested at a checkpoint in the southern part of Sierra Leone.
Southern region police spokesman, Assistant superintendent of Police Mohamed Bobson Senu said that Ahmed Junior Sesay, and Fomba Swaray were arrested on Wednesday 9 February 2022 at Gelehun checkpoint, a highway leading from Sierra Leone to Liberia.
According to the SLP spokesman, the second accuse, Swaray is a Sierra Leonean citizen living in Liberia and also the owner of the jeep they were arrested with.
“On Wednesday 9th February 2022, police personnel deployed at Gelehun checkpoint along the Pujehun-Liberia highway intercepted one unlicensed black jeep. And during the course of the search, police discovered a consignment of Kush in the possession of Ahmed Junior Sesay of No.14 Main Sewa road in Bo city, and Fomba Swaray of Liberia, the driver of the said vehicle,” the police spokesman said.
“Kush” is a locally made drug with a high street value.
The two suspects and exhibits were handed over to the Transnational Organized Crime Unit, southern region, for further investigation
