The Sierra Leone Police have confirmed the killing of Reverend Father Augustine Dauda Amadu, a Catholic priest of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kenema.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, 30 August 2025, at the priest’s residence in Burma 3, on the outskirts of Kenema.

According to police, unidentified armed men forcibly entered the parish house through a damaged window. Father Amadu, who lived alone, was attacked and later found dead. His remains were taken to the Kenema Government Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.

Police said it is not yet clear if any property was stolen.

No arrests have been made, but investigators are questioning parishioners and church authorities who were at early morning service. The Sierra Leone Police assured the public and the Catholic community that a full-scale investigation is underway.

The statement also highlighted a separate police operation in Bo on 27 August, where officers arrested Rodney Massaquoi and his wife, Mamie Jacob. Weapons, uniforms, and other items of interest were recovered from their residence. Both are in custody.

Police have urged the public to remain calm and to assist with useful information that may support the ongoing investigations.
