A team of police personnel from the Community Relations Department, Media and Public Relations Department and the Cooperate Affairs Directorate of the Sierra Leone Police has on Saturday August 27 2022 commenced an effective street sensitization, targeting market places, parks, major junctions and other community settings in Freetown.

The key messages captured in the sensitization tour included non-violence, citizens’ rights and responsibilities, lawlessness, peace and development among others to enhance peace, safety and stability in our beloved country Sierra Leone.

While interacting with the public, the team emphasized on the need for the Public to beware of fake and inciting contents/messages on social media, noting that the public should not always react to all social media messages, as most of such messages could either be false or deceptive.

Chief Superintendent of Police, Mrs. Edna Sumana Silver, the Head of Community Relations Department, who doubled as the team’s leader, assured the public that such sensitization would continue along with other sister forces and that the SLP intends extending this initiative to major cities and towns across the country.

Reacting to the sensitized messages, some members of the public, expressed extreme satisfaction; pointing out that the idea of sensitizing the Public on peace, lawlessness and non-violence is timely and proactive.

One Sheku Turay, a commercial motor bike rider had this to say; ” to see Police officers with Mega Phones in the streets of Freetown, sensitizing the Public on security issues is a scene I have not witnessed in my life time. I was amazed at such scene because it looks so strange. I am equally sure that this could be a suitable approach to averting subsequent incidents of the August 10 massacre in our nation. We hope SLP continues” he ended. Several other people contacted made similar sentiments and applauded the Police.
