Sierra Leone’s Media Officer of the Central Police Division, Chief Inspector Edward K. Kamara, has on Wednesday, July 13, 2023, announced that the Traffic Division of the Sierra Leone Police has got plans to stop the use of motorbikes in the central business district of the nation’s capital Freetown.
Chief Inspector Kamara made this statement during their regular press briefing in Freetown at their conference room in the presence of the media and other related bodies.
He noted that the police temporarily allowed motorbike riders to operate in the CBDs leading and up to the June 24th multi-tier elections, to ease the movement of the people at different points in the city.
Kamara maintained that bike riders were permitted to operate in the CBDs to facilitate smooth movement during the election period, but they no longer have that privilege and they will work to enforce the law.
He disclosed that the mobile highway patrol vehicle has been deployed at different locations in the city to enforce the law and have the people comply with the said rules.
The SLP Media Officer emphasized that the mobile patrol initiative has been successful in easing congestion in certain areas in Freetown.
Police you have started again disturbing the youth on their bike hustling..hmmm
All what we want is that let d govt remove CBDs for bike riders plz
Let us have freedom.
My concern is that, there is less job opportunities in the country and a lot of youths are engaged in bike riding to avoid family embarrassment and also support their families in FREETOWN here and also in provence but the introduction of the CBD’s is really disturbing the motor bike riders, especially those living in the central part of FREETOWN.
If I can ask the police media officer this question, where should the bike riders in the central part of Freetown do their bike riding?
If there are stop or do they want them to become thieves which is hell no.
Most people riding bikes are graduates but there is not much job so they decided to find or create a job, instead they are being humiliated the police.
Please Mr IGP and the Government, look into this situation and help them out please please sir.
