The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) have commenced an operation to clear illegal structures, roadside garages and abandoned vehicles along Edward Street in Freetown.
The exercise, according to the police, is part of ongoing efforts to remove obstructions on public roads, ease traffic congestion and improve safety for motorists and pedestrians.
During the operation, officers dismantled unauthorized structures encroaching on the roadway and identified abandoned and improperly parked vehicles for removal.
Police officials said the action is aimed at restoring order in the city and ensuring that public spaces are used for their intended purposes.
They warned traders, mechanics and property owners against erecting or maintaining unauthorized structures along roadsides, stressing that similar operations will be carried out in other parts of the city.
The Edward Street exercise follows similar operations conducted earlier this month across central Freetown, where the police cleared illegal roadside structures, garages and abandoned vehicles as part of a broader decongestion drive.
At the beginning of the month, related operations were also undertaken in other areas of the capital to remove makeshift structures obstructing roads and posing safety risks.
The Sierra Leone Police have reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining the operation, cautioning that individuals found violating regulations governing the use of public spaces will face appropriate police action as the citywide cleanup continues.
