A sergeant of the Sierra Leone Police attached to the Magburaka Divisional Headquarters, Northern Sierra Leone, has been reportedly dismissed from the force on allegations of disciplinary offences, a source with direct knowledge of the matter hinted to this reporter.

Sgt. 7627 James Coker with Pin Number: 218484, according to the source was dismissed from the country’s Police force on November 29th, 2022.

Coker, the source said permitted the escape of a suspect in custody, an act that contravenes the Police Disciplinary Regulations.

According to Paragraph 9 Rule 20 of the Police Disciplinary Regulations of 2001, an officer found guilty of permitting the escape of a suspect in custody faces disciplinary action.

The dismissed officer, the source said, also contravenes Paragraph 9, Rules 15 of the same regulations, by neglecting his duties as an officer of the State.

“Falling to comply with any standing order issued by the Inspector General of Police, act or conduct to the prejudice of good order and discipline,” the source said were among the offences committed by Sergeant Coker.

The source isn’t obliged to speak on behalf of the Sierra Leone Police, and he/she, therefore, remains anonymous. And neither the Police nor Coker is available was available for comment at the time of publication.

However, a leaked document from the Director of Human Resource Management of the Sierra Leone Police directed to the Regional Commander of the Sierra Leone Police Northeast, also confirmed that Coker was dismissed from the Sierra Leone Police with immediate effect for the aforementioned offences.

“Be informed that the Police Sergeant No. 7627 James Coker with Pin No. 218484, attached Magburaka Division is hereby dismissed from the Sierra Leone Police with immediate effect for the following Disciplinary Offences by Paragraph 19 (1) A of the Police Disciplinary Regulations 2001,” the leaked document reads.
