The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has officially unveiled a brand-new Dance Band in a ceremony held at the Senior Officers’ Mess within the Kingtom Police Barracks. The event, attended by senior police officials, marks a major step toward elevating the band’s image and performance standards.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu, speaking at the ceremony, recounted past challenges faced by the band, including inadequate instruments that had hindered its performances.

He cited a particularly disappointing appearance at an event hosted by a sister force as a key reason for procuring new equipment to restore the band’s reputation.

“The band is the pride of Sierra Leone,” IGP Sellu declared, emphasizing that it serves as a symbol of national identity and unity. He noted that the band often performs at state functions free of charge and called on its members to uphold the institution’s dignity through dedicated performance.

The IGP also encouraged all officers present to set personal goals and pursue self-improvement through education and skill development, especially as the year draws to a close.

The ceremony concluded with the ceremonial cutting of the tape, officially launching the new dance band a move that is expected to enhance both the morale of police personnel and the prestige of the Sierra Leone Police in the public eye.
