In a recent interview with Radio Democracy, Mohamed Gento Kamara, a former mayoral candidate for Freetown under the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), unequivocally declared his departure from politics, stating, ‘Politics is not for me.’ The renowned businessman reiterated his conviction that a career in politics is not his true calling, thereby confirming his decision to step away from the political arena.

During the interview, Gento reflected on his goals during the 2023 election, aiming for a peaceful electoral process and the dismantling of tribal hate, which he claims he achieved. He also noted his support for President Bio’s re-election.

Gento announced his resignation from politics, reiterating, “Politics is not for me,” and asserting that he has accomplished what he set out to do. He highlighted that his candidacy for mayor demonstrated that anyone could aspire to such positions, regardless of their tribe.

Despite his exit from the political arena, Kamara reaffirmed his long-standing allegiance to the SLPP, stating, “I will always be a member of the party.” He added that as a businessman, he has the right to focus on his ventures outside of politics.
