The Port Loko community is in mourning following the death of one of Sierra Leone’s most respected and dedicated journalists, Hassan Bruz, who passed away on December 28, 2024.

Bruz, who served as the Northern Bureau Chief of the Sierra Leone News Agency (SLNA) and a senior correspondent for Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC), was known for his tireless reporting and unwavering commitment to the truth.

For years, the veteran journalist was the voice of the North-western region, providing accurate and in-depth coverage of local events, politics, and social issues from Port Loko. His work shaped public discourse and gave a platform to the voices and concerns of the people in the Northwest provinces. His dedication to his craft earned him not only admiration but the respect of his peers, political leaders, and the general public alike.

One of the highlights of his illustrious career came on September 2, 2024, when He received a standing ovation from the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Ibrahim Tawa Conteh. The recognition came during a public accounts committee hearing at the Port Loko District Council conference hall. The standing ovation, a rare and prestigious gesture in the district, underscored the deep respect he had earned throughout his career.

During his tenure as a senior correspondent for SLBC, Bruz was at the forefront of significant national and regional news stories, always striving to deliver balanced and fair reporting. His work, particularly in Port Loko and the surrounding areas, earned him the trust of local communities and made him a go-to source for news and information.
