President Julius Maada Bio inaugurated a state-of-the-art transit transport terminal and a new traffic light system in Lumley on today, marking a significant step in improving the region’s transportation infrastructure and road safety.

The newly commissioned terminal, located in the bustling west end of Freetown, is designed to streamline access to transportation services and enhance connectivity between the city and surrounding regions. Officials noted that the development aims to address long-standing challenges faced by commuters and transport operators, including overcrowding and inadequate transit facilities.

In tandem with the terminal, a modern traffic light system was unveiled to regulate traffic flow in the congested area. The new system is expected to reduce gridlock, improve road safety, and bolster the city’s overall transport efficiency.

“This is a landmark moment for Freetown,” President Bio announced via his social media account. “I encourage all transport operators, commuters, and residents to embrace these facilities and commit to their ongoing maintenance to ensure their longevity.”

The developments form part of the government’s broader strategy to modernize Sierra Leone’s infrastructure, foster regional integration, and improve the daily lives of citizens. Residents and transport operators have welcomed the initiative, expressing hope for improved accessibility and reduced travel times.
