President Brigadier General (Rtd.) Julius Maada Bio has appointed Mr. Edmond Sylvester Alpha as Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman of the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL).
The appointment was announced in a Public Notice issued by the Government of Sierra Leone, Office of the President, State House, on February 20, 2026.
According to the notice, the appointment was made “pursuant to Section 32(3) of the Constitution of Sierra Leone, 1991 (Act No. 6 of 1991).” The statement informed the general public that “it has pleased His Excellency the President, Brigadier General (Rtd.) Julius Maada Bio, to announce the following appointment: Mr. Edmond Sylvester Alpha – Chief Electoral Commissioner/Chairman, Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone.”
The Public Notice was signed by the Secretary to the President, Barba B. Fortune, on behalf of the Office of the President. It was issued under the authority of State House in Freetown.
