Sierra Leone’s President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio has reappointed former Inspector General of Police, Ambrose M. Sovula, to a key public office as part of a new round of appointments announced by the Office of the President.

In a public notice issued on February 13, 2026, the Office of the President confirmed that Sovula has been appointed Chairman of the Advisory Committee for the Sierra Leone Commission on Arms and Ammunition. The appointment is subject to the approval of Parliament.

Sovula, who previously served as Inspector General of Police, is expected to provide leadership in overseeing national security measures relating to arms control and ammunition regulation. His reappointment places him in a strategic advisory role within the country’s security governance structure.

The announcement forms part of five new appointments made by President Bio to various public institutions. According to the official release from the Office of the President, the appointments are aimed at strengthening leadership across vital sectors.

The notice further stated that Ms. Isata Marrah has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the National Social Security and Insurance Trust, the institution responsible for managing social security and insurance benefits for Sierra Leone’s working population.

In addition, Mr. Ibrahim Abu Bakarr has been named Chairman of the Professional Social Work Regulatory Council, the body charged with regulating professional standards in social work practice in the country.

Mr. Sheik Rahman Kamara and Ms. Edwina Berewa Esq. have also been appointed as Board Members of the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank, where they will contribute to guiding the bank’s strategic direction and supporting its role in national economic development.

The public notice was signed by the Secretary to the President, Barba B. Fortune, and emphasized that all appointments remain contingent upon parliamentary approval. The formal vetting and approval process is expected to take place in the coming weeks.
