The Government of Sierra Leone, through its Wages and Compensation Commission (WCC), has issued a public notice requesting all public sector institutions to submit the Terms and Conditions of Service of their employees.
This request, detailed in a document signed by David WS Banya, the Chief Executive Officer of the WCC, specifies a deadline of September 15, 2024, for compliance. Institutions are required to forward the necessary information to the Commission’s office at #8 Wesley Street in Freetown.
The WCC was established by an Act of Parliament and officially signed into law by the President of Sierra Leone on April 13, 2023. It began operations in January 2024, tasked with important responsibilities regarding public sector wages and compensation. The Commission’s mandates include determining the wages and compensation for all public sector employees in Sierra Leone, ensuring equity and merit in the public sector pay system, and addressing other related issues.
This development underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to improving public sector governance and ensuring that wages and compensation across the sector are fairly and transparently managed. Harmonizing pay systems within the public sector could lead to better efficiency and morale among workers, with the broader aim of promoting fairness and encouraging productivity in public service delivery.
With the deadline fast approaching, public sector institutions are expected to comply with the WCC’s directives to avoid any administrative delays or complications.
I wish they can extend this to the private sector. Where they don’t follow the gazette. They just pay what they feel like
