The Pujehun Government Hospital welcomed the arrival of six 40ft container trucks loaded with Insecticide Treated Bed Nets (ITNs) on Saturday, 23rd September, 2023 for the upcoming 2023 Malaria Bed Net Campaign in Sierra Leone.
The campaign, a collaborative effort between the Sierra Leonean Government and its partners, aims to distribute bed nets throughout the country every three years, with the goal of substantially reducing malaria transmission. Pujehun District, in particular, received a total of 4,440 bails of bed nets.
Foday Brima, the Malaria Focal Person, underscored the collective responsibility shared by the government and its partners to combat malaria. He revealed that innovative plans are in motion to implement a digital registration and distribution system, with the distribution expected to take place between January and February.
This digitized approach seeks to streamline the distribution process, ensuring equitable coverage across the district. Brima urged all beneficiaries to utilize the bed nets as intended, emphasizing their effectiveness in preventing mosquito bites and reducing malaria prevalence. He stressed the vital role of the community in maximizing the bed nets’ impact on malaria prevention and control.
Brima expressed enthusiasm about the arrival of these Insecticide Treated Bed Nets, considering it a significant advancement in the battle against malaria in Pujehun District and the nation as a whole. The joint efforts of the Sierra Leonean Government and its partners reflect their unwavering commitment to malaria control and public health improvement.
As distribution plans progress, health officials and volunteers will collaborate to ensure the smooth and equitable dissemination of bed nets. Public awareness campaigns will also be conducted to educate the community on the proper usage and maintenance of these vital resources.
