The President of the Police Wives Association (PWA), Mrs. Matilda Doris Sellu, on Monday launched a nationwide tour to promote transparency, accountability, and inclusive decision-making among police wives across Sierra Leone.

The tour underscores Mrs. Sellu’s commitment to keeping members fully informed about the Association’s activities and financial status.

During visits to various police barracks, she presented a detailed breakdown of proceeds from the Association’s most recent event, revealing that a total of Le 525,000 was generated, with Le 375,000 deposited into the Association’s account after covering expenses such as feeding and transportation.

Mrs. Sellu stressed that decisions regarding the use of available funds would be made collectively through a majority vote of members. She also announced a fundraising feast scheduled for 5 April 2026, aimed at generating additional revenue to address the welfare needs of police families nationwide.

Highlighting past achievements, Mrs. Sellu noted that proceeds from previous activities supported the construction of boreholes in nine police barracks, including Kissy, Jui, Mayeamy, and Kossoh-town in the Western Area, as well as Makeni, Magburaka, Lunsar, Kailahun, Kenema, and the Old Police Barracks in Bo. These projects are intended to improve access to clean and safe drinking water for police families and surrounding communities.

She also referenced the recently implemented micro-loan scheme, which has been disbursed to police wives nationwide to support small businesses and strengthen household stability.

Several senior and junior police officers, along with PWA members, have commended Mrs. Sellu’s leadership as open and accountable. Long-serving officers with over 32 years in the Sierra Leone Police noted that this level of financial transparency and regular public reporting is unprecedented within the Association.

Beneficiaries at various barracks expressed gratitude for the borehole projects, emphasizing that access to clean water has significantly improved living conditions and added value to the police community.

The nationwide tour is ongoing and has so far covered Lungi, Port Loko, Kambia, Lunsar, and Makeni Police Divisions.
