A team from Rokel Commercial Bank (RCBank), including Chairman of the Board of Directors Buffy Bailor, Managing Director Dr. Walton E. Gilpin, and Director of Finance Abassie Thomas, is in Kigali, Rwanda, to discuss potential collaboration and partnership with Equity Bank.

The group is also attending a seminar organized by the Rwandan Institute for Capacity Development, focusing on financial management training for top executives.

Speaking from Kigali, Dr. Gilpin emphasized the importance of bilateral engagements with larger financial institutions and broadening the management team’s horizons to adapt to emerging trends in the financial sector. He highlighted that the engagement with Equity Bank could create investment opportunities between the two banks, contributing to RCBank’s growth.

“Apart from the immense growth potential from our potential collaboration with Equity Bank, it is crucial for us to learn and implement strategies that have transformed these financial institutions into global giants,” Dr. Gilpin said.

Equity Bank, part of Equity Group Holdings headquartered in Kenya, is the second strongest brand in the world (2024 ranking). In Rwanda, it operates 47 branches and is part of a larger network across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Ethiopia.

The team also visited I&M Bank, a subsidiary of I&M Group PLC, which is a leading banking group in Eastern Africa with a presence in Kenya, Mauritius, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Rwanda, like Sierra Leone, is a post-conflict country that has undergone rapid economic transformation, with financial institutions like Equity Bank playing a significant role.
