The first Resident Algerian Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Hachem Abdelhafid, paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, in a move aimed at deepening bilateral relations between the parliaments of Algeria and Sierra Leone.
Ambassador Abdelhafid expressed gratitude for the opportunity to meet with Speaker Thomas and highlighted the shared experiences of both countries, including periods of civil conflict. He extended an invitation to Speaker Thomas to visit Algeria as part of efforts to foster stronger parliamentary ties.
Speaker Thomas welcomed the Ambassador, reaffirming the sisterly relationship between the two nations and emphasizing the importance of having embassies in both countries to solidify diplomatic relations. He also invited Ambassador Abdelhafid to attend a parliamentary sitting on Thursday, where he will be formally introduced and recognized.

The Speaker noted that Sierra Leone’s Sixth Parliament, comprising 149 Members, has enacted progressive legislation and remains committed to further reforms. He expressed confidence that collaboration with Algeria would yield mutually beneficial outcomes, particularly in the area of parliamentary cooperation.
The visit marks a significant step in strengthening Algeria-Sierra Leone relations, with both parties expressing commitment to closer cooperation, mutual understanding, and shared development goals.
