The Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) hosted the 2025 Inter-Services and Formations Athletics Competition from Thursday 10th to Saturday 12th April at the Bo City Mini Stadium.

The annual event brought together various security institutions in a three-day display of unity, fitness, and teamwork.

His Excellency Brigadier General (Rtd) Dr. Julius Maada Bio (GCRSL), President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, attended the ceremony as Grand Chief Patron. He was recognized for his continuous support to the country’s security sector.

The athletics meet featured participants from the military, Sierra Leone Police, National Fire Force, Correctional Service, and other government security agencies. The competition aimed to promote closer ties and cooperation among the uniformed services.

Regional Police Commander South, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Mr. Brima Kanneh, spoke on the sidelines of the event, linking the athletics meet to recent discussions from the Public Order Management and Inter-Agency Cooperation (POMIC) Workshop held in Bo.

“The message was consistent throughout the workshop unity,” AIG Kanneh said. “Whether we wear khaki, blue, or red uniforms, we serve under the same flag and pursue the same goal: to protect and develop Sierra Leone. This athletics meet is a living testament to that unity.”

Also present was the Resident Minister South, Chief John E. Abu, who expressed appreciation for the Armed Forces’ use of sports to bring security institutions together.

“Security today is a collective responsibility,” Chief Abu said. “Witnessing these formations compete as one family underlines our growth as a peaceful and mature state.”

Brigadier General A.O. Kamara, who hosted this year’s event, praised the discipline and conduct of all participants.

“These events do more than test our physical endurance they build trust and shared understanding,” Brigadier Kamara stated. “The camaraderie forged here enhances the collaboration we rely on in our daily national duties.”

The competition attracted a wide audience, including dignitaries, service commanders, and members of the public. Applause and support rang out from the stands as athletes from various services competed in track and field events.

With the Public Order Management and Inter-Agency Cooperation (POMIC) Workshop recently concluded and the athletics meet successfully held, both platforms served as avenues to advance cooperation and coordination within Sierra Leone’s security sector.
