The murder case involving Corporal Joseph Lamin Steven (Service No. 18181456), who is accused of killing his colleague, Military Officer Moses Brima Kabba, has been adjourned by the Freetown Magistrate Court No. 1 due to the absence of a prosecution witness.
The matter came up before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah, where Corporal Steven is facing one count of murder, contrary to Section 1 of the Offences Against the Person Act, 1861, as amended by Section 1(a) of the Schedule to the Abolition of the Death Penalty Act, 2021 (Act No. 6 of 2022).
According to the indictment, the accused allegedly shot and killed Officer Kabba on Wednesday, 26 November 2025, at the Presidential Lodge, Freetown International Airport in Lungi, Port Loko Judicial District. The incident is said to have stemmed from a dispute involving the sum of one hundred United States dollars (US$100).
During Monday’s proceedings, Prosecutor ASP Ibrahim Mansaray informed the court that all necessary documents had been duly served on the accused to enable him to prepare his defence. However, he told the court that the prosecution witness slated to testify failed to appear.
After hearing submissions, Magistrate Jah ordered that Corporal Steven be remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown. The case has been adjourned to 26 January 2026 for further hearing.
