The Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) has confirmed that it is investigating a serious allegation of a sexual offence involving a senior officer, following a complaint filed earlier this month.
According to an official statement released by the military on Monday, the Military Police Regiment (MPR) was alerted to the incident on April 22, 2025. The nature of the complaint, while not fully disclosed, concerns an alleged sexual offence described by RSLAF as “grave.”
“In response to this serious matter, RSLAF has promptly launched a thorough investigation to uncover the facts surrounding the incident,” the statement reads.
The military emphasized its commitment to upholding human rights and justice, assuring the public that such matters are treated with the utmost seriousness. “As an institution deeply committed to upholding human rights and the principles of justice, RSLAF stands steadfast in its duty to protect all men and women serving in the institution,” the statement continued.
RSLAF also underscored its stance on transparency and accountability, promising to keep the public informed about the progress and outcomes of the investigation.
While details remain limited as the investigation unfolds, the Armed Forces’ public assurance signals a growing emphasis on institutional integrity and internal accountability within Sierra Leone’s military structure.
