On Thursday 04th January, 2023 a cross section of Students Against Corruption-Sierra Leone(SAC-SL) Executive paid a courtesy call to the Minster of Basic and Senior Secondary Education. The purpose of the visit was to extend heartfelt congratulations on the minister’s recent appointment and to explore potential partnership with the ministry.
The SAC-SL delegation congratulated the minister on his appointment and highlighted the organization’s commitment to being a supportive partner in the Ministry’s broader objectives. The executives emphasized their belief that a collaborative approach would yield positive results in nurturing a generation of students who are not only academically proficient but also possess a strong sense of ethics and integrity.
In his statement, the Minister, Mr. Conrad Sackey commended SAC-SL for reaching out to his ministry and for its proactive stance in championing anti-corruption values and expressed optimism about the potential impact of joint initiatives. He encouraged continued collaboration between the organization and his Ministry, recognizing the crucial role that student-led initiatives play in shaping the character of future leaders.
The Minister also shared light on the measures his ministry has taken in the fight against corruption, revealed that — Sierra Leone is poised to assume the chairmanship of the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) in March 2024 and will be for three-year tenure. Notably, he said the 30years old WACE Act is at it final stage of review and that one of the nine strategic objectives of the ministry specifically addresses the crucial issue of corruption — an alignment with SAC-SL’s core mission. He then thank SAC-SL and pledged his ministry support to the course.
The Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Basic Education, Dr. Ladipo, commended SAC-SL for its laudable initiative. She expressed admiration for the organization’s commitment to combating corruption in education sector and pledged her full support to the cause.
As the meeting concluded, both parties looked forward to a future marked by robust collaboration and a shared vision of an education system where ethical values and integrity take center stage. SAC-SL remains committed to working hand-in-hand with the Ministry to contribute positively to the educational landscape of Sierra Leone.
To climax the visit SAC-SL presented a Plaque to the Minister congratulating him on his appointment to lead the transformation in the ministry.
