The Managing Director of the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO), Ing. Tiideni Hawa Jabbi, is participating in the AfWASA Global Water and Sanitation Connect 2026 currently underway in Budapest, Hungary.
The four-day international forum, organized by the Hungarian Water Partnership in collaboration with the African Water and Sanitation Association (AfWASA), brings together global water sector leaders, development partners, and technical experts under the theme, “Shaping the Future of Water Together.”
Sierra Leone’s delegation is led by the Deputy Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Ing. Francis Alpha Kallon. It includes key sector stakeholders such as the Director of Projects at SALWACO, Ing. Yankuba Jusu Tarawally; the Director General of the National Water Resources Management Agency (NWRMA); the Managing Director of the Guma Valley Water Company; the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation; the Director of Water at EWRC; the Director of Hydrological Services at NWRMA; and the Performance Tracking Manager at the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation.
The high-level participation reflects Sierra Leone’s commitment to strengthening sustainable water and sanitation service delivery through international collaboration and knowledge exchange.
Day One of the programme focuses on innovative drinking water purification technologies, modern water treatment systems, rainwater harvesting methods, and advancements in hydrological research. On Day Two, delegates are expected to undertake a technical visit to the Budapest Central Wastewater Treatment Plant to gain first-hand insight into advanced wastewater management practices.
On Day Three, the Sierra Leone delegation will participate in the Planet Budapest 2026 – Future of Water Conference, engaging in high-level panel discussions alongside Hungarian and international partners, including the Global Water Operators’ Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA), the European Water Association (EWA), and the Global Water Partnership (GWP).
The programme will conclude with a guided cultural tour of Budapest, providing further opportunities for networking and partnership building.
SALWACO’s presence at the global forum underscores ongoing national efforts to enhance institutional capacity, drive innovation, and build strategic partnerships aimed at improving water and sanitation services across Sierra Leone
