The former vice president of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Abu Bakarr Sidique Samsumana, with regards to the holy month of Ramadan sends message to all Muslims in Sierra Leone and around the world, on the importance of the holy month of Ramadan and some key lessons to learn during the 29 or 30 days fasting.
On his very own words he said:
“In the name of God, the Gracious, the Magnificent, the beneficent and the merciful.
As Muslims unite to start the holy month of Ramadan, following the sighting of the new moon tonight, I send my warmest greetings and best wishes to all Muslims in Sierra Leone and around the world.
During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims mark the revelation of the Holy Quran to the prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) through fellowship and prayer.
As we observe this holy month by reciting prayers, fasting, reading the Holy Quran and performing acts of charity; I call on all Sierra Leoneans to use this holy period to reflect on the plight and future of our nation, our women and children to deepen our spiritual strength and renew a sense of appreciation for the many blessings God provides us as a nation.
In the spirit of prayer, forgiveness, thanksgiving, and reflection, during this period of Ramadan we can strengthen our communities, help those in need, and serve as good examples for how to live a holy life.
Ramadan reminds us of the richness Muslims add to the religious tapestry of the Sierra Leonean life.
Let us also pray for prosperity, improved livelihoods, freedoms, and togetherness that are guaranteed by our constitution as a democracy.
On behalf of my wife, my family, my political friends, and our entire Muslim community let me end by wishing all Sierra Leoneans and the world over a blessed Ramadan month.
Ramadan Mubarak!
May we all be bestowed the blessings of Ramadan. Amine!”
