During a tense court proceeding on Tuesday, April 1st, 2025, the General Manager of Sea Coach, Micah Tanimu, testified before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba Road Court No. 1 against two sailors: Samuel Benjamin Moriba and Alfred Karim Koroma.

The two sailors were brought before the court on charges of stealing items valued at over one hundred thousand New Leones from a customer at Sea Coach. The charge sheet indicates that on Sunday, February 9th, 2025, at Sea Coach Express on Sir Samuel Lewis Road, Aberdeen, the accused conspired to commit larceny. They allegedly stole a black suitcase, a grey Dell Computer Laptop, a black A23 Samsung Mobile phone, and other items valued at one hundred and twenty-four thousand, eight hundred New Leones, belonging to Doctor Sheriff Emil.

In his testimony, General Manager Tanimu, who also serves as a technician at Sea Coach, identified the accused as staff and sailors of the Express. He recounted receiving a call from the Coordinator at Mercy Ship on February 9th, 2025, regarding missing luggage. Tanimu instructed the coordinator to be patient while he investigated the matter. After obtaining the date of the incident, he reviewed CCTV footage in his office and observed Moriba moving the coordinator’s luggage from the terminal to the car park.

The testimony provided by General Manager Tanimu shed light on the events leading up to the charges against the accused sailors, highlighting the importance of thorough investigation and surveillance in cases of theft.

During the court proceedings, the witness underwent cross-examination by Defense Counsel S. Smart, who also submitted a bail application on behalf of the accused individuals. However, Magistrate Kekura denied bail due to the gravity of the offenses and the fact that both accused individuals are affiliated with the institution, raising concerns about potential witness tampering. Consequently, they were remanded to the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.
