The Minister of Finance, Sheku Fantamadi Bangura has disclosed to parliamentarians that the Ministry will provide over One billion and two million Leones as budgetary support to the security sector for the financial year, 2025.
Presenting the 2025 Appropriation Act, otherwise known as the national budget to the august gathering, the Minister said the country’s economy is projected to remain resilient in the medium-term and that growth is projected to reach 4.5 percent in 2025 and average 4.7 percent in 2026 and 2027, driven primarily by strong activities in agriculture and mining and supported by a stable economic environment.
Minister of Finance also noted that from the recurrent budget of the 2025 Appropriations Act, the sum of NLe340.4 million is allocated to the Ministry of Defence; NLe300.8 million to the Sierra Leon Police NLe12.8 Million to the Sierra Leone Correctional Services (SLCS); NLe12.8 million to the National Fire Force (NFF); NLe15.8 million to the Central Intelligence and Security Agency (CISA); NLe14.5 million to the Office of National Security (ONS); and NLe11.4 million to the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA).
The Minister also added that the wage bill of the security sector will amount to NLe1.2 billion. 153
From the domestic capital budget, an amount of NLe74.0 million is allocated to the security sector for the implementation of various infrastructural projects.
Furthermore, Sheku Fantamadi Bangura noted that the security sector will recruits over five thousands new personnel across the different agencies including the SLP, the RSLAF, the NFF, the SLCS and others.
He noted that there will be recruitment of 600 military personnel effective July 2025 and that the RSLAF will benefit from a 15 percent salary increase, effective April, 2025.
He also stated that governments will recruit 1,000 new employees for the SLP, effective July 2025 and that a 15 percent salary increase will be allotted to the institution effective, April 2025. The Minister also disclosed that by July, 2025 some 1,000 personnel will be recruited into the SLCS and that a 15 percent salary increase will be allotted the institution, effective April 2025.
He furthered that there will also be recruitment of 200 personnel by the National Fire Force effective July 2025 and that the institution will also benefit from a 15 percent salary increase, effective April 2025.
