Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu on Thursday, June 12, 2026, visited Masingbi to inspect ongoing rehabilitation works on facilities set to serve as the new Police Divisional Headquarters.
The development marks a significant shift in the policing structure of Masingbi and surrounding communities. Previously, the township operated as a police station under an Officer Commanding (O/C), but police authorities said its elevation to divisional status was necessitated by population growth, increased operational demands, and the need for faster and more effective security responses.
With the upgrade, the division will now be headed by a Local Unit Commander (LUC), bringing expanded administrative and operational capacity to law enforcement in the region.
The new divisional headquarters will also introduce key departments that were previously unavailable in Masingbi, including the Family Support Unit (FSU), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Community Relations Department (CRD), and Traffic Department. Police authorities say the move is expected to improve service delivery and strengthen security across Masingbi and neighboring communities.
During the inspection, IGP Sellu assessed the progress of the rehabilitation works and expressed optimism that the facility would be ready for commissioning next weekend.
Police sources said the idea to establish the divisional headquarters emerged during one of the IGP’s trips to Kono District. While traveling along the Magburaka-Kono highway, he reportedly observed several well-constructed buildings put up by SALCOST, the company responsible for the highway project.
The structures had served as accommodation for company personnel during the road construction but were left abandoned after the completion of the project.
Recognizing their potential, IGP Sellu proposed converting the facilities into police infrastructure rather than allowing them to remain unused. Following consultations with police authorities, local stakeholders, and the Paramount Chief, an agreement was reached to transform the buildings into a modern police divisional headquarters.
The initiative is expected to strengthen policing, improve public safety, and deepen community engagement across Masingbi and the wider region.
