Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh on Wednesday 12th June 2024, engaged residents of Makeni in a town hall meeting at the UNIMAK campus grounds in Bombali District Northern Sierra Leone.
The purpose of the Town Hall Meeting was to update Makeni residents and stakeholders about President Bio’s development agenda which is dubbed as the big 5 game changers. On the other hand, the Makeni residents had the opportunity to ask the Chief Minister numerous questions about the delivery of services and the operations of government.
The was represented by all walks of life including Paramount Chiefs, Mayor, District Council Chairperson, Religious leaders, Councilors, Students, Unions, Farmers and Ordinary Citizens.
As the engagement progresses, a fruitful dialogue ensued that helps to reinforce the confidence reposed on the Bio led government by the people of Makeni.
A diverse range of questions were directed at the Chief Minister, which includes the signing of the performance contract by government ministers, the recommendations of the tripartite committee, Feed Salone government flagship programme, national cohesion, extension of the radical inclusion in technology and innovation and many more.
Chief Minister David Sengeh responded to the various concerns, comments, and questions from the people of Makeni, assuring the people that those that requires immediate attention and coordination actions will be taken as soon as he returns to Freetown.
To address the flurry of queries about the feed Salone project, Dr. David Sengeh asked the District Agricultural Officer (DAO) to write a letter to the substantive Minister of Agriculture and outline the various concerns and challenges about the project in the district.
He urged the DAO to handover the letter to him for onward delivery to the Minister in Charge of solving the myriads of challenges associated with the feed Salone project in Makeni.
As a way of profounding solutions to driven comment, Dr. David Sengeh urged for the establishment of an inter-district collaborative approach by way of signing Memorandum of Understanding with other districts across the country to get a way out of the intractable challenges affecting communities.
He dispelled rumours about a sit at home strike on June 19th, 20th and 21st , and went on to allay the fears of the people that such an unpatriotic agenda is being pushed by miscreants living out of the country who are keen on sowing seeds of discord among Sierra Leoneans.
Chief Minister, Dr. David Sengeh appealed to the people of Makeni to listen to their political representatives who are dedicated to maintaining peace and tranquility, and went on to admonish the people to ignore trouble makers and social media rabble rousers who thrives on fake news and destructive propaganda.
He assured of national internet connectivity through the STAR LINK as a means to extend the radical inclusion of technology and innovation through an unfettered accessibility to the people of Makeni and Sierra Leone at large.
Dr. David Sengeh noted that the signing of the performance contract by government ministers has placed an obligation on them to deliver at all cost and it further serves as a good governance mechanism that fosters accountability to both the people of Sierra Leone and to President Julius Maada Bio who appoints them.
“For the first time in the history of Sierra Leone the performance contract will be signed by heads of all government institutions that are supervised by the various Ministries”, he discloses.
