Sherbro Alliance Partners (SAP), the driving force behind the ambitious Sherbro Island City project in Sierra Leone, has commenced the first phase of feasibility studies. In collaboration with the Government of Sierra Leone, SAP aims to transform Sherbro Island into a dynamic eco-city, blending sustainability with cultural richness.
A team of internationally renowned consultants has been assembled to lead the initiative. This team comprises experts in various fields including urban planning, design, infrastructure, sustainability, governance, economics, and mobility. The goal is to develop a comprehensive master plan for Sherbro Island, aligning with the requirements of the Investment Framework Agreement (IFA) and ensuring harmony with existing natural systems.
During a recent visit to Sierra Leone, the consultant team conducted a detailed reconnaissance of Freetown and Sherbro Island. They engaged with local communities, documented existing conditions, and met with government officials and stakeholders to gain insights into challenges and opportunities for development. The visit underscored the island’s diverse ecosystems, resilience aspects, and community assets.
The feasibility studies will encompass four phases over a 10-month period, culminating in the development of an integrated concept master plan. Key areas of focus include infrastructure design, ecology, architecture, governance policies, economic analysis, transportation systems, and agriculture.
Sherbro Alliance Partners, founded in 2019 by Idris Elba and Siaka Stevens, envisions Sherbro Island as a pioneering hub for business, education, energy, agriculture, entertainment, and tourism. This visionary project aims to create a sustainable and inclusive home for islanders, Sierra Leoneans, the African Caribbean diaspora, and global expatriates alike.
The consultancy team comprises leading firms such as Sasaki Associates, Buro Happold, Foster & Partners, Pegasys, Frost & Sullivan, MIC-Hub, PRDW, and Agritecture. Together, they are committed to developing a bold and forward-thinking vision for Sherbro Island, setting new standards for sustainable development in Africa.
