In a bid to address some of the welfare issues in the RSLAF, the leadership of the Ministry of Defence and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (MoD/RSLAF), had a round table dialogue to address critical Welfare Issues of RSLAF Troops.
In his presentation with a cross section of the Senior Management of the MoD/RSLAF, the Commander of the 34 Military Hospital, Colonel Dr Steven Sevalie made a presentation on the Medical Capabilities of the RSLAF. His presentation focuses mainly on the Joint Medical Unit current manning, ongoing projects, and effective collaboration of other medical agencies, revenue and expenditure of the Hospital, Public Private Partnership (PPP), challenges faced and the way forward.
‘’I requested for MoD/RSLAF Senior Management to approve and operationalize the 34 Military Hospital Management Board that will develop policies that captures strategic intent and also establish a team to work on health care financing among others’’ Colonel Dr Steven Stress.
Additionally, Colonel Dr Luseni also stressed on the objectives of achieving the 34 Military Hospital mission and tasks ranging from; strategic leadership and direction, resource optimization, quality assurance and improvement, capacity building and workforce development, emergency preparedness and community engagement, innovation and sustainability.
He finally presented a draft proposition of the board members of the 34 Military Hospital which will be approved by Senior Management after the inclusion of those key stakeholders that were initially omitted.
The Director of Defence Public Relations and Information on the internal strategic communications on delving key message to RSLAF troops, he thank everyone of the availability of all MoUs to the Senior Management for their ”visibility, training of JMU personnel on public health and environmental issues, preparing of concept notes on critical medical areas for the attention of the chain, incentives to JMU health care workers’’ and request for the procurement of critical medical equipment among others.
After the various presentation, the Deputy Minister of Defence Colonel (Rtd) Muana Brima Massaquoi with the CDS – RSLAF, Major General Amara Idara Bangura, Service Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs of Defence Staff visited RSLAF personnel who are currently undergoing medical treatment at the 34 Military Hospital and made generous donations.
In his encouraging message to RSLAF sick personnel, the DMD stated that the purpose of their visit was to wish them a happy new year and to raise their hopes and confidence that all is not lost. Each of the 14 RSLAF personnel and some civilian patients visited received a bag of rice, One Thousand new Leones (NLe 1000.00) and assorted provision items as gifts.
