Sierra Leone’s Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Conrad Sackey, alongside representatives from the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO), Leh Wi Lan, and relevant ministries, launched the distribution of over 78,000 menstrual hygiene kits across five districts in the country.
The initiative aims to empower girls and improve their school attendance. The kits, distributed in Western Rural, Port Loko, Bombali, Bo, and Kailahun districts, will benefit girls at Peninsula Secondary School and countless others across the region.
Minister Sackey highlighted the growing number of girls in schools, a positive development for his ministry. He emphasized the importance of supporting their continued participation and success throughout their education.
“When girls miss school due to their periods, it negatively impacts their learning, confidence, and future opportunities,” Minister Sackey stated.
This program aligns with the ministry’s commitment to creating an inclusive and gender-responsive education system. Minister Sackey reaffirmed their ongoing efforts to encourage girls’ enrollment and retention through various initiatives, ensuring uninterrupted access to education for all children.
