Sierra Leonea’s High Commissioner to Ghana, His Excellency Mohamed Hassan Kaisamba on Friday, 23rd May joined colleague Heads of Mission, state officials and invited guests at a flag-raising ceremony in commemoration of the 62nd Anniversary of the African Union Day organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ghana.
The ceremony held at the forecourt of the State House brought together senior officials of government, members of the Diplomatic Corps, Ghana Armed Forces, school going pupils, and many more.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Dean of the Africa Group of Ambassadors and High Commissioners, who is the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morrocco, HE. Mrs. Imane Ouaadil congratulated everyone on the 62nd anniversary of the African Union and commended Africans for being resilient and unwavering.
According to HE. Quaadil, Africa as a continent, continues to grow despite some challenges that are faced by the Africans, adding that “Justice for Africans and the People of African Descent Through Reparations” which is the theme for this year, 2025, is in line with the AU agenda 2063, which talks about the preservation of peace, security and stability.

In his address as the Special Guest of Honour, the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations of Ghana, Hon. Samuel Nartey George said, 62 years on, since the formation of the Organization of Africa Unity now Africa Union (AU), the flames ignited by the pioneers continue to shine bright as it stands as a testament to Africa’s enduring commitment, unity and bravery.
Hon. George said this year’s celebration theme, which says, “Justice for Africans and the People of African Descent Through Reparations.” serves as an invitation for governments, Civil Society Organizations, and Africa Diaspora to unite in the pursuit of nurturing a future founded on justice and reconciliation.
“The celebration this year comes at a time when our continent is striving to overcome economic hardship, the impact of climate change, conflict and governance challenges” said Hon. George, while noting that we shouldn’t miss sights of the progress that have been made by Africans in all these years.
The Minister concluded by urging leaders of Africa to be more united with a guiding principle of fostering stronger ties within the region, continue to deepen regional integration, strengthen democratic governance and cultivate a continent in which every voice is heard and valued.
