The Minister of Internal Affairs, Rtd AIG Morie Lengor Esq, on Tuesday, 25th March 2025, joined Senior Staff of the Sierra Leone Correctional Service (SLCS) on an inspection tour of the SLCS ongoing construction Facilities at Kissy Town, Waterloo in the Western Area Rural District.
which purpose of the Construction Facility Sites is to reduce overcrowding and transform inmates into corrections.
Director General of the SLCS, Joseph Senesie, informed the Minister about the ongoing construction, said the Facilities include Schools, Training Centers, holding facilities, detention cells for both male and female, and accommodations for SLCS Personnel among others.
He also disclosed that the Facilities, when completed, would particularly reduce overcrowding in the Male Correctional facility on Pademba Road cells, enhance training facilities, and mitigate some constraints faced in transforming the inmates into corrections, ultimately aiming to help them become productive individuals of society after serving their jail terms.
During his tour, the Minister lauded praises for such an ongoing and huge, impressive construction facility and expressed thanks and appreciation to His Excellency the President Brig. Rtd Julius Maada Bio and the Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, who doubles as the Chairman of the Correctional Council, for being committed to the growth of the SLCS and also fulfilling the Human Capital Development Agenda.
Minister Morie Lengor Esq further reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the SLCS continues to get more support, as plans are underway to relocate the Pademba Road Male Correctional Centre, while assuring the DG of Government swift intervention in ensuring the safety of the facilities.
He maintained reassuring the DG of Government proactive measures against those constructing dwelling apartments around the facilities, considering it a threat to the Correctional Facility, and pledged his commitment to ensuring the facilities are safe and secure.
He appreciated the DG for his effort and commitment, while admonishing the staff on the importance of teamwork for a peaceful and co-existence environment and for the facilities to serve their purpose. The inspection tour climaxed with a group photo.
