The Bank of Sierra Leone has announced that June 30th will be a holiday for Banks in Sierra Leone to allow preparations for the redenomination of the Leones.

The Bank made this announcement in a public notice issued today, 23 June 2022.

The notice form the Bank reads that, “The management of RCBank is pleased to inform its valued customers and the general public that the bank of Sierra Leone has declared Thursday 30th June, 2022 a bank holiday pursuant to Section 122(2) of the banking act of 2109 to enable the bank conclude internal systems and operational issues in readiness for the launch of the new currency on Friday 1st July, 2022.”

The bank will resume operations on Friday 1st July, 2022.

Last week, the Bank of Sierra Leone announced that the denomination currency shall become legal tender effective 1st July, 2022, and the existing currency will cease to be the legal tender on 1st October 2022.
