Sierra Leone is poised to strengthen diplomatic relations with Algeria by inaugurating a new embassy in the country.

This development was confirmed following President Julius Maada Bio’s appointment of Alhaji Brima E. Koroma as Sierra Leone’s inaugural Ambassador to Algeria on July 24, 2024.

The move follows earlier reports from Algerian media in early 2024, which indicated that both governments were coordinating efforts to establish their respective embassies. The initiative is part of Algeria’s broader strategy to garner support from Sierra Leone regarding its ongoing dispute with Morocco over Western Sahara.

Ambassador Koroma, who will be transitioning from his role as Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Senegal, is expected to play a key role in fostering bilateral relations and supporting diplomatic objectives between the two nations.
