The government of Sierra Leone, represented by the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), and the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) have jointly committed to fulfilling the sixth agreement outlined in the recent dialogue agreements.
This particular agreement focuses on re-engineering and rekindling relationships within the national socio-political ecosystem, especially between President Bio and former political leaders, including former Presidents and Vice Presidents.
The sixth agreement states that, “Both parties commit to re-engineer and rendie the relationships within the national socio-political ecosystem such as between his excellency the President and former colitical leaders (former Presidents and Vice Presidents): the Apc and SLPP leadership. etc.”
The agreement is seen as a crucial step toward fostering unity and collaboration among political leaders, with the aim of promoting national development and harmony. Many Sierra Leoneans are eagerly anticipating the realization of this agreement, as they believe that unity is the catalyst for progress.
Renowned Sierra Leonean journalist Amadu Lamrana Bah has suggested that this commitment could pave the way for another round of dialogues, involving President Bio, former President Ernest Bia Koroma, former Vice President Samsumana, and appointed former Vice President Victor Foh, among others.
Speaking on the matter, concerned citizen Joseph Boima, a master’s student of Gender at the University of Sierra Leone’s Fourah Bay College, emphasized the importance of addressing and fulfilling the sixth agreement promptly. He stressed that unity among political leaders sets a positive example for their supporters and can help maintain peace and stability in the country.
Boima emphasized, “The recent protests that occurred in our country, in my opinion, were a result of disunity among our politicians. Supporters took advantage of this disunity to protest and protect their political candidates. However, if our leaders unite, they can set an example for their supporters and advise them to maintain peace.”
Boima linked recent protests in the nation to the lack of political unity and expressed hope that this new commitment would help prevent such incidents in the future.
The commitment to rekindle relationships between President Bio and former leaders has generated optimism among Sierra Leoneans, who eagerly await the positive impact this unity may have on their nation’s development and stability.
