The Director General of the National Telecommunications Commission of Sierra Leone (NatCA), Amara Brewah, is currently in Guinea to solidify a crucial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing Internet connectivity between the two West African nations.

This strategic initiative focuses on establishing an interconnection that will provide a redundant, or backup, route for Internet services in Sierra Leone through Guinea’s terrestrial fiber backbone.

The MoU is expected to fortify Sierra Leone’s Internet infrastructure by providing an alternative route that complements the existing ACE (Africa Coast to Europe) subsea cable, managed by the infrastructure company Zoodlabs.

The creation of this redundant route is a significant step forward in ensuring uninterrupted Internet access for Sierra Leone, especially in the event of disruptions to the subsea cable.

By establishing this backup route, Sierra Leone aims to improve the resilience and reliability of its Internet connectivity, which is vital for both economic growth and the overall digital ecosystem.
