Sierra Leone has assumed a pivotal role as the new leader of the Africa Region Labour Administration Centre (ARLAC) Committee of Senior Officials, responsible for overseeing labour, employment, and manpower issues across the continent.

This committee plays a crucial role in shaping and implementing policies designed to improve the efficiency of Africa’s labour force and address pressing employment challenges.

As the new chair, Sierra Leone is expected to lead ARLAC’s efforts to tackle the continent’s labour crises, drawing on its past contributions to the organization.

The committee’s mandate includes developing policies to enhance worker welfare and ensuring that labour laws across member states are up to standard.

During the handover, outgoing chairman Mr. Moshe Mosaase urged ARLAC member states to strengthen the organization’s legislative foundation and remain committed to addressing the labour issues faced by workers across Africa.

He emphasized the need for ARLAC to stay focused on ensuring the protection and welfare of workers throughout the continent.

Joseph Tekman Kanu, Permanent Secretary of Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Employment, Labour, and Social Security, expressed confidence in Sierra Leone’s ability to provide strong leadership in this role.

He stressed the importance of African nations working together to solve the continent’s labour challenges through collective collaboration and innovation.

He noted that Sierra Leone’s leadership would focus on fostering policies that ensure fair labour practices and sustainable employment growth.

Under Sierra Leone’s guidance, ARLAC aims to address critical issues such as unemployment, worker protection, and the development of skilled labour, while enhancing cooperation among member states.
