Gabriel Kpaka, Deputy Director of the Sierra Leone Meteorological Agency, has issued a statement indicating that the country is expected to experience a significantly high level of rainfall this year. According to the agency’s forecast, 2025 could see the highest rainfall recorded in Sierra Leone in the past 30 years.

Kpaka warned that failure to clear major drainage systems could lead to serious flooding and disasters, particularly in high-risk areas. He urged immediate precautionary measures in light of the anticipated heavy rainfall across the country.

The alert emphasizes the importance of implementing safety measures to mitigate risks associated with flooding, landslides, and other rain-related hazards.

Sierra Leone over the past years have experienced heavy rains which had claimed lives and properties, with the Meteorological Agency forecast of significantly high level of rainfall this year is worrisome and a call for concern.
