2021 is kicking off with a bang for Artists of the Sierra Leone entertainment industry and the rappers are hip-hoping with glee as they receive foreign nominations on platforms previously not known to host Sierra Leone. This is a win for Sierra Leone and we at Sierraloaded say kudos guys, job well done.
Rapper Queen Kong Star Zee bagged three nominations on the Global Music Awards Africa, including Global Hip Pop Song of The Year, Global Reggae/Dancehall Song of The Year, Global Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of The Year for her song “Big Money”. Song was released last year and received rave reviews for it’s beat and video quality.
Another Sierra Leonean who received multiple nominations is Terror-D who bagged four nominations including Global Afrobeat Song of The Year, Global Afrobeat Artiste of the Year, Global Record of the Year, Global Rapper of the Year for his song “All Access” which was released in 2020.
Sierra Leone new school Afro-fusion rapper, Benjamin Menelik George stage named Drizilik received the prestigious nomination of Listeners choice on the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) among stars like Sarkodie, Tiwa Savage and Rayvanny. Drizilik is the only nominee from Sierra Leone in this year’s award.
The First Lady of Sierra Leone, Fatima Maada Bio has since congratulated Drizilik encouraging him to do more so he could keep representing Sierra Leone and continue to raise the country’s national flag higher.
“Congratulations to you MR DRIZILIK for your nomination at the MTV Africa Music Award. Representing MaMa Salone should be a pride to all and sundry. We are super proud of your achievements and keep flying our flag high,” the First Lady wrote.
She further encouraged internet service providers in Sierra Leone to roll out free data services as part of their corporate social responsibility to allow people to vote.
