Following police invitation of Mayor Aki-Sawyerr of the Freetown City Council, on an alleged case of obstruction to police duties and disorderly behavior in a police station, Lawyer representing the Mayor wrote and informed the Inspector General of Police that his client had fallen ill and had been advised to stay home and rest.

In a letter dated 30th September, 2022 addressed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Fayia Sellu, JFK and Partners wrote on behalf of their client, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr informing the IGP that their client is a clinically high blood pressure patient for several years.
“It is with regret that she will not be able to attend the ministerial development partnership meeting and the police invitation, both scheduled for today, cognizant of her civic duty and responsibility to the law, our client remains willing to respond to the said notice at the earliest given opportunity” the letter reads.

JFK and Partners informed the IGP that the medical condition of the Mayor was being monitored and promised to keep the police updated with development in relations to the Mayor’s illness.
“In the circumstances, and should the need arises we may humbly wish to suggest that the interview be done at the office or home as deemed necessary” they requested.

The police on the other hand, on 30th September, acknowledged receipt of the letter from Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara Esq and Partners and informed him that the investigators will wait to receive his client(the Mayor) today at 1000hours.

Meanwhile, Members of the main opposition All Peoples Congress(APC) have described the latest invitation of the FCC Mayor as part of the persistent intimidation and suppression by the government since she was voted in 2018, when her political party the APC, lost the presidential election to the Sierra Leone People’s party

“she first suffered direct physical assaults and intimidation by supporters of the ruling government in 2018, then a direct verbal attack by the former Local Government Minister, which was followed by several false allegations including that of embezzlement” one of her supporters said.

However some supporters of the ruling government hold contrary view about Mayor Aki-Sawyerr, describing her as corrupt and one who promotes tribalism.
