The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) have revealed on Tuesday 26 September 2022 that they have completely offloaded the 40ft suspicious container and there was no trace of arms or ammunition not any contraband goods, or anything of security concern.

The police made this revelation on a post shared on social media.

“The suspicious 40ft container opened and completely offloaded. There was no trace of arms and/or ammunition nor there were any contraband goods or anything of security concerns/interests. All done in the full view of the media, civ. soc., IGP, ONS and other interested parties,” SLP posted.

On Monday 25 July 2022, Senior stakeholders in the Security Sector headed by the Inspector General of Police IGP Ambrose Michael Sovula, Internal Affairs Minister, David Panda-Noah, National Security Coordinator Office of National Security (ONS), Avayama and others in full view of the media, Civil societies and owners opened and discharged the 40ft Maesk line Reefer Container that was arrested on Friday 22, July, 2022 on allegations of carrying arms and ammunition, fake new Leones Currency, drugs and other Contraband items.

Speaking before the opening of the container, IGP Sovula explained that as security sector, they were very much concern about it contents.

“At a time like this, when a container is said to be carrying arms and ammunition, if it happens to be true we must open investigations for various reasons” he said.

However, following it opening, the contents were found to be frozen chicken and sausage.
