Sierra Leone’s growing influence in youth diplomacy took centre stage as United Nations Assistant Secretary-General Dr Felipe Paullier held a high-level meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Timothy Musa Kabba, facilitated by the Minister of Youth Affairs, Ibrahim Sannoh.

The meeting highlighted a shift in Sierra Leone’s international engagement, with youth leadership emerging as a central pillar of its foreign policy outlook.

Dr Paullier used the occasion to commend the country’s visible role at the United Nations Security Council, noting that Sierra Leone has been deliberate in amplifying youth issues within global decision-making spaces. He praised Minister Kabba for maintaining a clear and consistent focus on youth inclusion in diplomatic discussions.

Significantly, the UN official revealed that his visit was motivated by earlier engagements with Minister Sannoh in New York, signalling growing international recognition of Sierra Leone’s youth advocacy efforts. He described Sannoh as part of a new generation of leaders shaping the global conversation on youth empowerment.

For his part, Minister Kabba emphasised that youth development remains integral to Sierra Leone’s diplomatic priorities, noting that the country is committed to ensuring young people are not only represented but actively involved in shaping international agendas.
