Abu S. Gbawie, a pilgrim from Sierra Leone, has passed away. The incident occurred during preparations for the annual pilgrimage. According to an eyewitness, who was staying with Abu, he had been complaining of excessive heat and difficulty breathing after disembarking from the bus that transported them to their station.

The witness, who observed Abu’s condition, noted that Abu might have been an asthmatic patient, although this remains unconfirmed. In an attempt to offer some relief, the witness advised Abu to rest and gather strength for the demanding journey ahead. Tragically, upon returning to their accommodation, the witness found Abu lifeless, lying on a chair downstairs.

Local officials and medical personnel are expected to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of death.

The Sierra Leonean community and fellow pilgrims have expressed their condolences and are providing support to each other during this difficult time. The loss of Abu S. Gbawie has cast a pall over the pilgrimage, highlighting the need for heightened awareness and care for vulnerable individuals among the pilgrims.

Authorities are now emphasizing the importance of proper health checks and ensuring that all pilgrims are adequately prepared for the journey. They also recommend that those with known health issues take extra precautions and seek medical advice before embarking on such strenuous activities.
