In a development spanning over two months, ECSL’s hiring of numerous Sierra Leoneans for roles related to the June 24 election has encountered criticism.

Disgruntled youth expressed their resistance to undergoing additional verification procedures, even from the UNDP verification team.

They view this verification process as a mere stalling tactic to delay their compensation. These individuals, who often resorted to loans to cover transportation and sustenance expenses, are vehemently asserting their rights by chanting “No money, no verification.”

The aftermath reveals a stark reality of humiliation and marginalization for those unable to meet loan repayment obligations, significantly affecting their standing in their respective communities. The UNDP verification team encountered challenges in executing their responsibilities due to an unfriendly operational environment.
