Some Sierra Leoneans in Europe have converged in the Belgian city of Brussels to stage a protest against President-elect, Julius Maada Bio and his government. The protest took place in front of the European Parliament in the Belgian city.

It has been suggested that the driving force behind the protest is against 24 June election results announced by the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL).

The ECSL announced the incumbent Bio of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) as winner after scooping nearly 57 percent of total valid votes casted.

The main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) refused to accept the results calling for it to be released by polling station rather than by district level.

The protesters held placards that referred to Bio as “dictator” and some calling on the EU to save Sierra Leone’s democracy.

The protest which took place on Monday afternoon shared resemblance to an earlier one held in London last week.
