Sierra Leone’s newly appointed Ambassador to Morocco, H.E. Alhaji Momodu Koroma, held an introductory meeting with Embassy staff in Rabat on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, focusing on fostering unity and cooperation among diplomatic personnel.

The gathering marked Ambassador Koroma’s official commencement in Morocco and underscored Sierra Leone’s commitment to bolstering ties with the North African nation.

During the meeting, hosted in the Embassy’s conference hall, the Head of Chancery, James Sylvanus Lebbie, welcomed Ambassador Koroma and urged Embassy staff to support his mission. Ambassador Koroma expressed appreciation for the Embassy’s accomplishments since its establishment in 2021, attributing the successes to teamwork among diplomatic and local personnel. He emphasized his commitment to enhancing diplomatic relations and fostering new partnerships between Sierra Leone and Morocco.

Ambassador Koroma highlighted President Dr. Julius Maada Bio’s encouragement to leverage his diplomatic experience to deepen the relationship between the two countries. He pointed to Sierra Leone’s progress under President Bio, noting strides toward economic stability and collaboration with Morocco in various development sectors.

A central focus of the Ambassador’s address was Sierra Leone’s “Big Five” Agenda, particularly advancements in human capital development and the “Feed Salone” initiative. He shared that these programs aim to boost food production, diversify value chains, and create job opportunities, especially in rural areas. Koroma noted that Morocco has committed to supporting these goals, including the training of over 100 Sierra Leoneans annually in specialized fields and exploring investment opportunities in Sierra Leone.

Highlighting international support, he mentioned recent economic agreements, including a $248.5 million deal with the International Monetary Fund and a $480 million Millennium Challenge Corporation Compact with the United States, as evidence of international confidence in Sierra Leone’s transformation.

Ambassador Koroma called on Embassy staff to embrace unity and dedication to advance Sierra Leone’s interests. He assured the team of open communication and pledged to continue building on the work of his predecessor to strengthen Sierra Leone-Morocco relations.

The Embassy staff expressed their support, committing to uphold the mission’s standards under Ambassador Koroma’s leadership.
