Josephine Kamara, Director General of the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC), highlighted the transformations she has implemented at SLBC during her first six months in office.

Madam Kamara made this disclosure during the government’s weekly press conference, organized by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education at the Foreign Affairs Conference Hall.

According to Kamara, under her leadership at SLBC, transmission interruptions became a thing of the past, as the issue was resolved by purchasing new equipment

She disclosed that she set a 100-day goal, aligned with the vision of the Ministry of Information and the people of Sierra Leone, as they are the true owners of SLBC. Kamara emphasized that SLBC is not a state broadcaster but a public broadcaster, adding that the institution’s work is neither censored nor controlled by any external party.

Kamara noted that before her tenure, SLBC was in poor condition. However, she instilled discipline and established a regular routine that resulted in a clean, healthy environment for employees to thrive.

In addressing the institution’s human resources, she explained that there were many unproductive staff members, including volunteers and contractors, who were not on the payroll but still received salaries. This issue was resolved by assigning the human resources team to conduct appraisals and establish key performance indicators to determine which employees to retain and which to let go.

She further shared that after her initial 100 days, she established a strategic communications unit to improve programming at SLBC. Kamara observed that the existing programs were dull, but her leadership facilitated the return of local language programming, making the content more engaging for viewers.
